CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

A HEALTHY, SOLID AND SAFE HOME

We use the best materials on the market and only use those that are suitable for effective and efficient use for the construction of wooden houses. This is a sine qua non for us: we only use materials that work in perfect harmony with wood.

That is why all of our insulators respect the hygrometric and thermally insulating functions of wood, combining it to make your wooden house a healthy and sustainable home. A house that breathes and naturally regulates the ambient humidity. All the materials used collaborate with wood, to reinforce its natural capabilities, and never to limit them.

To achieve this end, we are the ones who design and manufacture our foundations, walls and roof. Because we want your entire home to function as a cocoon that protects your family in a healthy and effective way.

FOUNDATIONS

Foundations are the base on which the wooden house will rest and are the starting point to guarantee correct thermal and acoustic insulation. Solidly based on solid foundations (concrete clogs, concrete slabs or stone clogs, depending on the project and the needs of the land), the Ecositana house is isolated from the ground to avoid any contact of the wood with the earth. Above this technical level, the base of the house will rest on a ventilated air box, which will keep the wood healthy throughout the longevity of the house. The void of the foundations is sealed to prevent access to animals, and the air circulation is ensured through grilles anchored in the concrete itself.

Final floor covering of the house, which may be wooden floors, floating floors, tiles, tiles, or other coverings to be chosen by the future owner. There will always be reinforcement of insulation with a suitable screen to receive floating or vinyl floors.
OSB Wood Panel (above air box) OSB panel, applied to the structure due to its high mechanical properties and ability to resist moisture (Class EN13986-2015; reaction to fire D-s2; resistance to bending 20 / 10Nm2).
Mineral Wool, thermally and insect proof imputrescible mineral insulator whose porous structure encloses the air in small capsules, allowing an optimal thermal and acoustic insulation of the floor of your wooden house (Fire reaction class A1 [Incombustible]; thermal conductivity; thermal conductivity); 0.037W / m2.K, density 35Kg / m3).
Beams of laminated Nordic spruce(GLULAM). Thanks to their great mechanical resistance and flexibility, these wooden beams safely support the structure for several generations to enjoy (Standard EN 14080: 2013; strength class GL 24; reaction to fire D-s2).
After applying a Bituminous Emulsion on the massive foundations, an Asphalt Mesh is placed between the concrete and the wooden base. The screen prevents moisture from rising, allowing the foundations to be completely watertight. It is an effective solution for one of the most critical pathologies of modern construction (Water-tight; durability and high temperature behavior EN 1296 and 1297; tear resistance ≥ 150N).
Reinforced Concrete Foundations. Depending on the project, the foundations may be composed of concrete lintels or a concrete slab. Ensuring stability and isolation in relation to the ground, the foundations allow the wooden house to be supported on a ventilated air box, essential to preserve the resistance of the wood and eliminate the risk of degradation by biotic agents.
STRUCTURE OF FOUNDATIONS

WALLS

Our walls are designed to have maximum thermal performance, with a combination of various insulators and the supreme insulator of Mother Nature, wood. Because they are an integral part of a suitable thermal project, our windows and French windows are all double-glazed (or triple in the case of large glazed extensions). The frames are usually made of thermal break aluminium, with low-emissivity glass or smart glass (as per solar orientation).

Interior finish (lining the internal wall of the house, at the owner’s choice: wood, plasterboard, tile, etc.). In addition to the aesthetic side, the internal lining of the house must also offer thermal and acoustic protection.
Thermo-Acoustic Mineral Wool, imputrescible mineral insulation resistant to termites and insects whose porous structure encloses the air in small capsules, allowing an optimal thermal and acoustic insulation without preventing the house from breathing (Reaction to fire class A1 [Incombustible]; conductivity; thermal 0,037W / m2.K, density 35Kg / m3).
Wood, the supreme insulator. In this case glued laminated Nordic Fir wood that insulates thermally and acoustically and that also allows to regulate humidity. Wood is ideal as it does not lose any of its insulating capabilities over time. It presents the best performances for passive construction with high longevity (Standard EN 14080: 2013; strength class GL 24; reaction to fire D-s2).
Mineral wool non-hydrophilic semi-rigid panel with excellent thermal and phonic insulation performance (Fire reaction class A1 [Non-combustible]; thermal conductivity 0.034W / m2.K, density 70Kg / m3). This last layer is finished off with a Vapour Barrier whose function is to prevent condensation and to separate the interior of the house from the other wall materials (the SD value will be adapted according to the project).
Wood Panel OSB, applied inside the structure due to its high mechanical properties and ability to resist humidity (Class EN13986-2015; reaction to fire D-s2; flexural strength 20 /10Nm2).
Rain Barrier. A breathable membrane specially designed for wooden houses that allows waterproofing without, however, preventing the wall from breathing (Resistance to water infiltration W1; watertightness 3000MM; 150g / m2).
Exterior cladding of the house (wood, stone, shale, ETIC’s [aka: cloak], or whatever the project defines). If the outer covering is wood, it will be Thermowood (thermo-modified wood at 212 degrees for exterior application) with an average thickness of 30 MM, in the standard version. In addition to its function of protecting from the weather, the exterior cladding of the home also promotes the thermal and acoustic insulation of the house.
GENERIC WALL CONSTITUTION

ROOF

In the same vein, our roofs are designed to thermally insulate the house through engineering structures and insulating materials that are complemented and reinforced to guarantee enormous longevity.

In addition, the roof design allows the house to have a healthy atmosphere. Under the exterior tile and the waterproofing screen, our houses have an air box that allows the ventilation of humidity.

Ceramic tile, whose primary function is to protect from the weather and provide a thermal and acoustic barrier (Impermeability EN 539-1; fire resistance class A1; mechanical resistance greater than 1200N). We work with J. Coelho da Silva ceramic tile for its technical qualities and durability.
Metal Bubble Screen, insulating flameproof aluminum screen with air blades, whose function is to offer thermal protection and mechanical resistance. Its incombustible nature is still central to greater safety (thermal resistance 1.26 m2.hºC / Kcal; reflection coefficient 95%; thermal conductivity 0.028W / m2.K).
Wooden slats. Placed at a strategic point, they create an air box, facilitate the evacuation of any water that may penetrate and help support the ceramic tiles without damaging the remaining insulating elements of the cover.
Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) with a thickness of 40 to 80 mm (according to the project it is also possible to apply Expanded Cork Agglomerate Panels). Placed on a panel, they insulate the cover thermally and acoustically thanks to its sections that fit perfectly together (thermal conductivity 0.034 W / m.K; compressive strength 200kPa).
OSB Wood Panel or Wood Lining, applied to the structure due to its high mechanical properties and ability to resist moisture (Class EN13986-2015; reaction to fire D-s2; flexural strength 20 / 10Nm2).
Beams of laminated Nordic Spruce (GLULAM). Thanks to their great mechanical resistance and flexibility, these wooden beams safely support the structure for several generations to enjoy (Standard EN 14080: 2013; strength class GL 24; reaction to fire D-s2).
